Dezmond Meeks
With a vocal range of nearly 5 octaves and the style to match the “diva pipes”, 26 year old Singer/Songwriter/Musician Dezmond Meeks follows in the footsteps of greatness with an undying drive for newer heights. Recently relocating to Hollywood this June from his 4 year tenure in Las Vegas, Dezmond is no stranger to the stage having performed to sold out rooms from sea to shining sea.
Inspiration came easy as he learned early whether indirectly or directly from the likes of legends Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Sly Stone, Tina Turner, The Clark Sisters and more! Standing at merely 5’4, Dezmond’s humble beginnings started back at his roots as a native of the sleepy town of Pineville, LA “I always dreamed of living in Hollywood or New York… doing what I love for a living. I knew that my life would never just be in one place… but many.” Dezmond spent the first 21 years of his life in his home state of Louisiana where he attended college at Northwestern State University as a Theater major minoring in Dance, and where he also honed his talents as a musician before Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans on Burbon St. However, life would have some interesting twists in store…
Fall of 2004 made a huge difference in the life of the young aspiring superstar when the producers of American Idol cast him on the 4th season of their show. Although the show was won by the incomparable Ms. Carrie Underwood, Dezmond’s memorable audition and staying power throughout the show proved that he was well deserving of the quarter final rounds in which he was eventually eliminated. Soon after, Las Vegas was calling for the talented entertainer to play a role he was ironically born to play. As an actor and tap dancer, Dezmond entertained a sold out room of hundreds nightly as the image of the late great Sammy Davis Jr. in Las Vegas, Chicago, San Francisco and “One Night Only” shows from Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, San Diego and Palm Springs.
In the Spring of 2007, Dezmond began to work with master musicians/songwriters Joey Sykes and Fabrizio Grossi to produce the indie chart topper “Them and Me” which had received rave reviews form underground sources like Idol Waves and AOL’s OurStage.com. Las Vegas proved to be a great outlet for performance for Dezmond… Having headlined or performed at such venues as: The House of Blues, Cathouse, Krave, PURE, The Joint, RAIN inside The Palms, Ghost Bar inside The Palms, Revolution Lounge, 8.5/Pirannah, Beauty Bar, Las Vegas PRIDE, The New York Café, Barcode, The Plaza, The Ritz Carlton, The Stirling Club.
Having a niche for reinventing himself constantly and better with time, Meeks relocated to Hollywood, CA after headlining Las Vegas Pride alongside Martha Wash and Guy B, to further progress in the music and entertainment industry. Encouraged to “Be The Star” by the guidance of 19Management, Dezmond has most recently played to a standing room only audience at Hollywood’s Viper Room this past August and has already rebooked for October 26th in addition to his recent booking at The Key Club in Hollywood.
As a gifted producer, Dezmond has had the pleasure of working with several of Los Angeles’s notable and rising talent including Multi Award- Winning recording artist James Torme, (son of Grammy Legend Mel Torme), Guy B, Mark Grilliot, IAMONE, David Kater and Korean Dance Artist Keyrie. Dezmond can also be seen 2 nights a week as a musician/front man at Howl At The Moon inside Universal City Walk.
In February of 2009. Dezmond Meeks began working on his first full length album entitled “Music Is My Sanity” (in production) releasing the singles “Them and Me” and “This Won’t Be My Last Dance” this Summer.
Dezmond’s feature fall engagement was held on Saturday September 26 in Alexandria, LA where Dezmond performed his original arrangements alongside the renowned 55 Piece Rapides Symphony Orchestra.
